Pond Video (2)

One more short video of the fish.  This was taken in March of 2010 when we were feeding them.  It was a breezy day so you can hear some of the wind going across the mike but you can also hear the windchimes!

  1. How do you keep the egrets and herons from eating your Koi? My pond has been raided twice and the neighbors pond has been raided four times. Help!

    1. We don't have any egrets or herons here! We do have nasty pigeons though. They don't get to the fish; they just try to get water and then poop all over the rocks and patio. Don built some little screens to put over the "creek" and the pond during the day. They lift off easily when we are enjoying the yard.

  2. How peaceful and relaxing it must be to sit, feeding, or watching these beautiful fish. The sound of churning water is so nice. The closest I have to anything like this is the chugging of my fish tank motor, which is usually clogged and gurgling. Not to mention, I one have one fish inside. A 5 gallon tank, housing a solitary algae eater. Not our original intent, but it has been 3 years now, and he seems very happy, but rarely comes out of hiding long enough for us to catch a glimpse. He has the run of a sunken pirate ship and dilapidated castle. My daughter would love your pond, and probably beg us for one of her own. Our shopping excursions always come to a screeching halt when we get to Wal-Mart's wall of fish tanks : )! Do you have alot of knowledge of fish varieties? Any suggestions on low maintenance, hearty, aquarium fish?

    1. Our fish are so cool, they come to the top of the water when we get near and as I feed them, I can actually pet them!! I don't have a lot of fish knowledge, but for your daughter, I would suggest you get a small aquarium with pump and buy her 2 little African dwarf frogs! They are sooo cute and tiny. They're also called aquarium frogs. Petsmart and Petco carry them if you have those stores and run around $3.00. I've had them in my classroom, until this year. Low maintenance and little cost. Fun to watch because sometimes they just hang in the water with their feet all spread out, other times they dart around. You can buy a snail to eat the algae but I haven't had much luck with them. Don't put the frogs with other fish though, of any kind.

  3. I love the pond and the sound. Water is so relaxing to hear and see for me. We have wanted to put a pond in our yard but have not gotten to that project, maybe one day. I can see myself sitting by a pond in the evening listening to that sound after a day in the classroom.

    1. I can't wait for next weekend because I want to get out there and get the yard cleaned up from winter. I have a HUGE need for the peacefulness out there right now! Whenever you do decide to build a pond, I'd be happy to send you the pictures of all the stages.

  4. My wife also likes to relax to the sound of water. She had me build a small pond with a 3 ft waterfall just off the patio and near our bedroom window so she could enjoy it during the day and at night when we open the windows in nice weather.

    1. That is really cool, John. Do you have any pictures of it? I would love to see them. For some silly reason, my living room windows are just panes of glass. (maybe because they are so huge??) I wish I could open at least the one that is the "backdrop" to the pond. Would love to be able to listen to it when I'm in the house.

  5. Not only does this give a beautiful browse of your pond, but also offers a relaxing gaze at the activity of the fish who make their home there. Really helps to make life simple.
